Boisabi rally held in Rangamati and Khagrachari

In celebration of the Great Boisabi festival in a somewhat revolutionary fervour different socio-cultural organisatoins have organised rallies in Rangamati and Khagrachari towns this morning, where placard wielding participants shouted against human rights abuses and land grabbing.

In Rangamati, the main banner reads “Festivity will be meaningful only when people enjoy their political rights”.

About 2,000 people took part in the rally that began at 11:30am from Pourasova (Municipality) Auditorium. It ended in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Kalindipur.

Another estimate put the figure at 4,000.

In northern CHT, Khagrachari, organised by Boisabi Celebration Committee, the rally was inaugurated by noted educationist Mr. Ananta Bihari Khisha and addressed among others by Shaney Alam, Chairman of Khagrachari Upazila, Kiron Marma, a businessman and social activist, Banshari Marma, Vice-chairman of Khagrachari Upazila, Ms Shapla Tripura, President of Khagracahri Mohila Samiti and Milon Dewan, Councilor of Khagrachari Pourasova.

Various socio-cultural organisaitons, including Surya Shikha Club, Tannyabi and JUSAS, took part in the Boisabi procession which took off from Eyongdaw Buddhist temple and ended at Upazila ground.

According to an estimate, about 1,500 people from all walks of life and from differnet parts of the district participated in the procession.

They carried placards inscribed with various demands and slogans.
