The United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) has opened an office at Pujgang under Panchari Upazila in Khagrachari district.
The office was inaugurated yesterday by Alok Bikash Chakma, a UPDF organiser affiliated with Panchari Unit.
Presided over by Chandra Dev Chakma, the inauguration ceremony was also addressed by Riku Chakma, president of Hill Women’s Federation Khagrachari district unit, Shipu Tripura, member of PCP Panchari branch, Anil Kumar Chakma, chairman of Chengi Union No. 2, Nanda Joy Chakma, a businessman, and Nila Kumar Chakma.
In his inaugural address Mr. Alok Bikash Chakma said UPDF is committed to democratic values and principles and is campaigning for the rights of the Jumma people through peaceful means.
“But the government and the army have been engaged in a conspiracy to thwart the advance of our party.” he alleged.
He urged all to strengthen the hands of the UPDF for peace and progress in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

- The Indigenous Jumma Peoples Movement in North America
- The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region comprises three districts: Banderban , Khagrachari and Rangamati. The districts comprise seven main valleys formed by the Feni, Karnafuli, Chengi, Myani, Kassalong, Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers aid their tributaries and numerous hills, ravines and cliffs covered with dense vegetation, which are in complete contrast to most other districts of Bangladesh, which consist mainly of alluvial lands. Geographically the CHT can be divided into two broad ecological zones: (a) hill valley, (b) agricultural plains. It is surrounded by the Indian states of Tripura on the north and Mizoram on the east, Myanmar on the south and east and Chittagong district on the west.
