UPDF supporter kidnapped in Belaichari

A supporter of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) has been kidnapped in Belaichari under Rangamati district, UPDF sources said.

UPDF’s Animesh Chakma told chtnews.com that Samar Chakma (age 20, father’s name Chittibo Chakma) was kidnapped from his home in the village of Orachari, 4 kilometers south-east of Belaichari Upazila Sadar, on the night of 28 September.

Describing him as a strong supporter of their party, Animesh said “a small band of JSS (Santu faction) militants kidnapped him”.

The JSS militants also beat up other three villagers including Samar Chakma’s older brother Chizimoni Chakma (25).

The other torture victims have been identified as Suchai Marma (45) s/o Aungthui Prue Marma and Mongsha Marma (50) s/o unknown.

Another report said the militants had demanded a toll of Taka 50,000 from Kerongchari UP member Sugandhi Chakma and threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to pay the money.
