Santu group kidnaps Jumma trader in Rangmati

A Jumma trader was kidnapped by Santu Larma faction of the Jana Samhati Samti yesterday, sources said.

Alo Bikash Chakma (age 42) son of late Natun Moni Chakma of Banojogichara under Jurachari Upazila was kidnapped around 11am from Samata Ghat in Banrupa in Rangamati town.

Some of the kidnappers have been identified as Ujjal, Bhaggyo, Barijhya and Ritan.

Mr. Chakma, an ex-JSS member, went to the town to sell bananas.

He was an active member of the JSS till 2006 and later became a supporter of the UPDF.

UPDF staged a demonstration in Jurachari today, Tuesday, demanding his immediate and unconditional release.

“We urge the JSS not to harm him and release him immediately.” one of the speakers demanded.

He also called upon Santu Larma to shun the politics of killing and violence and launch a movement for full implementation of the CHT accord.

“We will throw our full weight behind such a movement” he said.
