Settlers have destroyed a paddy field belonging to Brio Kumar Chakma,
age 45, s/o Badipurno Chakma in Nabin Talukderpara of Bogachari under
Rangamati district.
Quoting villagers, UPDF’s Rangamati District Organiser, Shanti Dev
Chakma said at around 4pm on Saturday, 25 April, Md Joynal (50) and
his son Nurul Islam (18) from Bogachari cluster village began
destroying the standing paddy crops with their daos (knife).
However, when Biro Kumar Chakma and his father resisted, the settlers ran away.
Land grabbing
A small plot of plough land measuring .15 acres belonging to Dhana
Kumar Chakma (45) s/o Choidya Chakma of the same village has been
forcibly occupied by a Bengali settler.
The settler erected bamboo fences around the said land one month ago.
Dhana Kumar Chakma lodged a complaint with the local Union Council
member, Md. Phul Mian, but to no avail.
