An activist of the Jana Samhati Samiti’s reformist faction has been
shot and wounded in Rangamati town.
Sources in Rangamati said Pragati Chakma, age 35, a member of the JSS
reformist faction, was shot at Devashish Nagar of the town today at
around 8pm. He was shot in the head.
He has been admitted to Rangamati Sadar Hospital.
An ex-Chairman of Ghilachari Union, Mr. Chakma joined the JSS in 1998.
However he broke away from it in 2006 differing with Santu Larma over
many substantial issues including the question of handling UPDF-JSS
conflict.
He has been highly critical of Santu Larma, and has provided open
support to the UPDF in the recent months.
UPDF’s Rangamati District Organiser Shanti Dev Chakma condemned the
attack and urged the government to bring the culprits to justice.
He also called upon the people to resist the evil forces responsible
for such acts of violence.
