Two injured in JSS Santu Group attack in Jurachari

Two people including a Democratic Youth Forum member have been injured in a pre-dawn attack in Jurachari under Rangamati district.

Sources said in the small hours today a group of 16 armed members of the Jana Samhati Samiti (Santu faction) led by Sohel Chakma (28) and Jitesh Chakma (26) raided the village of Labour Para in Jurachari Sadar and carried out the attack.

They shot and wounded DYF member Prashanta Chakma (36) son of late Prem Moy Chakma and went for Hichchonnya Chakma (35) son of Krishna Ratan Chakma with knives and sticks.

Hichochonnya Chakma is a day labourer. He was hit in the throat with a knife and beaten with sticks.

Prashanta Chakma sustained injuries in his left hand. Both of them are now undergoing treatment at Jurachari Sadar Hospital.

UPDF Rangamati District Organiser Shanti Dev Chakma condemned the attack and called upon the local administration to bring the culprits to justice.
