Settlers seized goods from 3 Jumma traders

The settlers have seized goods from three Jumma traders as an overwhelming boycott of Laxmichari bazaar by Jumma people continues.

Sources said Shanti Kumar Chakma, ex-member of Laxmichari Union, Tarani Sen Chakma, incumbent member of Dulyatoli Union and Shanti Chakma today bought goods worth about Taka 20,000 from Manikchari bazaar to be sold at their shops in Laxmicahri.

When they reached Laxmichari bazaar at about 1:30pm the settlers led by Alamgir and Khokan, two Bengali traders, seized all their goods.

Earlier, on 12 October, the Sub Inspector of Laxmichari police station, Faridul Alam, had seized goods from five Jumma traders they bought from new Morachengey market.

However, he had to return it after protest.

The Jumma people have been boycotting Laxmichari bazaar in protest against a communal attack on them on 9 October.
