Unknown assailants yesterday shot dead Tipu Chakma (32), a resident of Pablakhali village in Baghaichari, Rangamati.
Mr. Mongol Kumar Chakma, the publication and publicity secretary of the central committee of the Jana Samhati Samiti (Santu faction), claimed that he was the General Secretary of the JSS Khedarmara Union branch.
Locals believe that Tipu Chakma might have been killed as a result of an internal conflict between the two factions of the JSS.
The other faction of the JSS is led by former Shanti Bahini guerrilla leader and member of the CHT Regional Council, Rupayan Dewan.
