The Panchari civil administration has imposed section 144 in College Gate area, where the Hill Student’s Council is scheduled to hold a commemoration meeting tomorrow for those killed in Logang massacre in 1992.

“The section 144 prohibiting assembly or gathering of people will be effective from 8am to 5pm tomorrow”, the announcement said.

Talking to chtnews.com, PCP president Ricoh Chakma said they had sent a letter to the TNO informing him about the program.

He further said there was no ground whatsoever, no law and order problem calling for the imposition of section 144, and added that “It has been done to foil the peaceful program of the PCP.”

Independent sources said the situation had been calm and peaceful before the announcement of the imposition of section 144 at 7:30pm. “There was no tension, no treat to public peace; and hence the notice came as a surprise to us all” said Khokon Chakma, a school teacher in the area.
